Wedgwood Nautical Shell Jasperware Taupe Etruscan Jug

Description

This Wedgwood Nautical Shell Jasperware Taupe Etruscan Jug is constructed from a taupe stoneware featuring a matte, unglazed finish. The form consists of a bulbous lower body that tapers to a narrow neck with a flared rim and a small pouring lip, supported by a single C-shaped loop handle. The exterior is ornamented with white sprigged bas-relief decoration featuring two horizontal bands of repetitive scallop shells. One decorative band encircles the neck, while a second band encircles the widest part of the body, both of which are bordered by raised molded rings. The underside of the base is impressed with the factory mark WEDGWOOD and MADE IN ENGLAND. Additional impressed marks include the letters P and V and a copyright symbol. A circular white paper provenance sticker from the Rubin Collection is affixed to the base.
