Wedgwood Jasperware Pale Blue Round Sacrifice Bowl

Description

A large round footed bowl manufactured by Wedgwood in England. The piece is crafted from pale blue Jasperware with white sprigged relief decoration. The exterior body is ornamented with various neoclassical Greco-Roman figures and trees in low relief, depicting sacrificial scenes including motifs commonly identified as the Sacrifice to Ceres. A continuous garland of oak leaves and acorns encircles the rim. The interior of the bowl features the same matte blue finish as the exterior. The base is marked with the impressed stamps WEDGWOOD and MADE IN ENGLAND. A circular paper provenance label for the Rubin Collection is adhered to the underside.
