Description

Wedgwood Collectors Society Jasperware Etruscan sage green and cream jug. This vessel features a cream jasper body with applied green bas-relief sprigging, often referred to as reverse Jasperware. The bulbous body is decorated with neoclassical scenes including figures in classical drapery, a child, a tree, and a pair of embracing putti. The neck and lower body are bordered by horizontal bands featuring a geometric floral quatrefoil motif. The single loop handle is accented with green foliate sprigs at the upper and lower terminals. The underside of the base features a circular gold stamp for The Wedgwood Collectors Society surrounding a profile bust of Josiah Wedgwood. It is incised with the marks WEDGWOOD and MADE IN ENGLAND. A silver foil provenance sticker for the Rubin Collection is attached to the base.
